MIA
Wow, so I’m back again from blog limbo, which where I seem to be spending most of my life at the moment. Currently blog limbo is North/North West England (or Haydock to be exact). It’s where the company has me based for the next month. Not that I mind. It’s an exciting time for me as I’m heavily involved in the launch of a new brand, which is being targeted to take back market share from our competitors (who are stronger than us in the North and North West) as well as to block the growth of another brand recently launched by a company who, while not big enough to be direct competition for us, could be a small threat in about 18 months when certain shifts occur.
On top of that I also get to eat 3 course meals every night and come home to fresh linen and a clean room. If I was in a close relationship I might struggle with only being home for 2 days a week, but as I’m not I’m actually quite enjoying my nomadic life at the moment.
But I digress. Those of you who read the site regularly enough will have noticed that it hasn’t been updated for a whole two weeks now. So why would that be? Leeds Music Festival maybe? With guestlist passes maybe? Free guestlist passes maybe? For all three days maybe? Uh huh. You would be correct there.
So without further ado…
Auf Der Mau – She’s a hottie. Good show.
The Von Bondies – Loud. Not the tightest set you’ll ever hear.
Read Yellow – Loud. I was outside the Radio One tent lazing on the grass in the sun listening to them. Pretty good.
Bloc Party – Excellent. For most of their set I was still lazing on the grass.
Placebo – Sounded fucking amazing. Pity I had just arrived with my festival friend and was still pitching the tent during their set. AM SO GUTTED! At least I could hear them.
Green Day – Abso-FUCKING-lutely brilliant. If you even remotely like Green Day then you have got to see them in concert. Not only is their set super-tight, but they go above just playing their music and really entertain you. Billy Joe is hilarious… and can even play while standing on one leg with his guitar behind his head. I was impressed. I was also in the front row.
Goldie Lookin’ Chain – I’m not a huge fan, but they were good. A hilarious act. Just remember, guns don’t kill people… wabbits do!
Taking Back Sunday – Very very loud. Too loud even. Not very good.
Hundred Reasons – Good, but not great.
Jurassic 5 – Excellent. The first time I’ve watched a Hip Hop band live and I was so impressed. The DJ’s were superb! They were another band that went to great lengths to entertain the crowd.
The Distillers – I love the music, but they just didn’t look like they wanted to be there. That took the edge off their show a bit.
The Hives – Such a great live act. They’re sheer arrogance… but packaged brilliantly. Just remember… ‘The Hives are here to entertain you! And you LOVE the Hives!’
Ash – Shit hot!
The Offspring – I always compare them to Greenday because I became aware of them both at pretty much the same time… way back yonder. They played a good set but didn’t go to the lengths Green Day did to entertain the crowd.
The Darkness – Excellent. As good live as I expected them to be. Which is very good, in fact.
Young Heart Attack – Very very good. Nice work with the female and male vocals.
Thursday – Brilliant. Very energetic… especially after pretty much 5 years of touring.
Razorlight – The hottest new British talent at the moment… and they proved it at the festival. Great show.
Franz Ferdinand – One of the best sets of the weekend. I did so not know they had that many great songs. I loved every minute that they were on stage.
The Libertines – Uh, ok. Missing Pete Doherty in the same way your hand would probably miss your thumb.
Morrissey – I’d heard of Morrissey but never listened to any of his stuff before. And now I feel like I’ve missed out on so much! He may be stuck up his own arse, but his music is superb.
The White Stripes – They were great… but without going out of their way to do anything special.
I’d tried to get a sympathy watch of Modest Mouse in for Vaughan, but they were playing at the same time as Hundred Reasons and Jurassic 5 and I just couldn't squeese them in.
And that’s all for now. I’ll write more when I have the energy.
